Hey you! Need your spaceship repaired? Well head on down to Uncle Chop’s Rocket Shop, where the adorable fox Wilbur is our star mechanic! Well, perhaps he is more of a trainee mechanic, as there’s no guarantee that your ship will be restored in tip-top condition the first time around. But when you are stranded in space, choice really isn’t an option. Kasedo Games and Beard Envy have delightfully announced that Uncle Chop’s Rocket Shop will be coming to Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC in 2024.
A Roguelite Repair-em-up
Originally announced for PC during 2022’s IGN Awesome Indies Showcase, this repair sim is as bananas as you get. Never mind the cyberpunk setting and fox mechanic, but it turns out that Wilbur is trapped in a death loop. Poor performance in a repair job spells termination for his life. At least until an insect-like Grim Reaper sends him back to the mortal realm. Repair, die, repeat…
All shown off in a very colourful art style reminiscent of Rick & Morty or Adventure Time, Uncle Chop’s Rocket Shop will have you repairing spaceships by sorting out a number of modules. Each module plays out as a little minigame, aided by a helpful manual that Wilbur can access. Think of it much like the bomb-defusal game Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes. Figure out which tool, diagnostic device and appliance to use for the job, and you might just survive till nighttime.
Upgrades, Upgrades, Upgrades
If you want to be repairing the biggest and baddest ships in the fleet, then you’ll need to invest in upgrades. Starting off with some very humble tools, soon enough you’ll be working with huge industrial devices to get the job done right.
Add into proceedings a branching, multi-ending narrative. That will be complete with different factions to align yourself with, and there quickly becomes more than meets the eye with this one.
The Job Starts Next Year!
