Sony has just released a new system software update for PS5. Not to be confused with the firmware that’s currently in beta, this update is a minor one — although it does require installation before you can sign back into PSN.
Weighing in at 1.15GB, what does version 23.01-07.61.00.00 do, then? Here’s the official word from Sony:
“This system software update improves system performance.”
It’s business as usual this time, then, but it’s also probably preparation for the console’s incoming updates. The firmware currently in beta makes various improvements and additions, like Dolby Atmos support and more accessibility options, and Sony is also currently testing PS5 game streaming for PS Plus Premium members. There’s no date for when these new features will roll out for everyone, but it appears they’re not far off.
